Through March 2nd
Madison Square Garden
Madison Square Garden is a play on words, familiar to a graffiti writer’s slang.
Madison: America’s 4th President. Square: A community gathering place. Garden: A metaphor for growth. M.S.G.: Metro Style Graffiti, founded in 1994 in South Florida, is a vandal-created art gang.
This exhibition highlights some of M.S.G.’s most admired creatives. The correlation between the acronym and one of the world’s biggest stages is worth noting. MSG is a place for sold out concerts and competitive sports in New York City, the birthplace of hip hop and graffiti.
Fame in the streets has brought vandal energy into mainstream culture. It’s the art of organized crime. Vandals see their community as a canvas and don’t ask for permission to be creative. From trains and billboards to Nike and Microsoft, these artists have inspired others to forge a new creative path.
Graffiti writers are known for their code words and nicknames. The title of the show is just another example of how language matters. For graffiti writers, their names matter and how they display their name is their art.
M.S.G. focuses on Miami-based artists whose styles are rooted in South Florida, a sunny place where the lack of seasons lends itself to 24-7 access to the streets and the proliferation of street art. An eclectic selection of works will be on view - from man-made painting machines to hand painted basketballs and printed coffee mugs.
Neufolk’s Room 220 is a curatorial project founded in 2023 by Max Kauffman and Brandon Opalka. Room 220 is located in the historic Evans School in downtown Denver, Colorado.
Featuring works by Abstrkt, Atomiko, Camnut, Chnk, Hoxxoh, G.E.R.E, and Five Gallons.
