walsenburg downtown murals
Since 2023, the Walsenburg Downtown Revitalization Committee has been funding mural installations with money donated by local businesses, nonprofits, and residents, in addition to grants support.
Walsenburg local and founder of Far Out Murals, Yul Jorgensen, originally spearheaded the initiative, ushering in over 16 artists to paint the streets of Walsenburg. In 2023, I stepped into the curator role, allowing Yul to follow other passion projects; though he has returned since to grace the Walsenburg walls with his artwork.
Working with the WDRC and area artists, our aim is to identify and sustain year-over-year funding to bring top regional artists to enact their vision on our signs, buildings, garages, and anything we can get permission to paint.
As the recent curator, I’m grateful to all the neü folk artists who participated in 2023 and 2024. Their generosity in working within the WDRC budget, working with area youth, and offering up Memorial Day weekend to come and paint this beloved small town, touches my heart greatly.
